FULL METAL JACKET(1987) REVIEW

FULL METAL JACKET(1987)  REVIEW: RATING: 5/5 STARS "This is my rifle; this is my gun, this is for shooting, this is for fun." MOSTLY SPOILER-FREE (READ AT YOUR OWN RISK): We can't ignore how brutal the Vietnam war was. It's a stain in American history and was a futile and useless war. Stanley Kubrick attaches his name to one of the greatest commentaries on this war and delivers a somber message under an "action-packed" veneer. The former half of the movie is what everybody remembers. They all know about Pvt. Pyle's descent into madness as he is bullied by his platoonmates and the Drill Sgt., Sgt. Hartman. R. Lee Ermey gives the most memorable performance of the 80s as he plays the role of a Vietnam war era drill sergeant perfectly. Vincent D'Onofrio also provides a stellar performance despite not being in the movie in the latter half. Although the second half of the story is widely looked over, it shows the brutality of the Vietnam War. It also shows...

HALLOWEEN ENDS(2022) REVIEW

HALLOWEEN ENDS(2022) REVIEW: REVIEW: 1.5/5 STARS Stupid, Frivolous, Gory. Halloween 2018 was a horror revival. In the same way The Texas Chainsaw Massacre revolutionized horror, Halloween 2018 was a breath of fresh air in the stale 2010 horror market. David Gordon Green brought terror back to the character of Michael Myers. Everything was going great; the movie was a critical and commercial hit. What could possibly go wrong?  After the flop that was Halloween Kills, horror fans wanted the trilogy to redeem itself. The hype was real to say the least. Jamie Lee Curtis saying that this movie was a return to form added to the hype as well. Personally, I couldn’t wait as a horror and Myers fan.  Then… October 14th came. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. Myers had barely any screen time and was killed off in such a ridiculous fashion. The “final hunt” in this movie is horrible compared to the one in Halloween 2018. I didn’t mind the relationship story between...

FIGHT CLUB(1999) REVIEW

FIGHT CLUB(1999) REVIEW: RATING 5/5 STARS The first rule of ***** **** is you do not talk about ***** ****.      What can I say about this movie that hasn't already been said? This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end, and the characters are very well-written. The dichotomy between Narrator and Tyler Durden is apparent at the beginning of the movie, but it is nonexistent at the end. The members of Fight Club become homogenous, having no personality or identity. This is a reflection of the society that we are becoming, not having any diversity. Sometimes it seems like we need a Tyler Durden in our lives.

THE LIGHTHOUSE(2019) REVIEW

THE LIGHTHOUSE(2019) REVIEW: RATING: 5/5 STARS Wow...      This movie is a trip. One of the most aesthetically pleasing movies I have ever seen. This movie takes a lot of inspiration from sailor folklore and art, and it shows. Willem Dafoe and Robert Patterson both give the best performances of their life and really show what it is like being driven to insanity by solitude. The keepers only have themselves...until they don't.      All in all, this is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen.

TAXI DRIVER(1976) REVIEW

TAXI DRIVER(1976) REVIEW RATING: 4.5/5 STARS      Honestly one of the best movies I have ever watched. The beautiful score by Bernard Herrmann complements the cinematography in a way I have never seen in a movie. The character of Travis Bickle is one who is written well as he is a jaded yet slightly optimistic person. Scorsese does not miss a beat in this movie; he makes watching this movie an experience I would recommend to anyone. Despite all of the positives, the movie struggles with pacing and some scenes can drag along.
